​MAYS LANDING, N.J. (November 19, 2019) –Atlantic City Electric has provided two grants totaling $39,000 to support the Gloucester County Boys and Girls Club in Paulsboro, New Jersey.

"The students at the Gloucester County Boys and Girls Clubs are the future of our community," said Gary Stockbridge, Atlantic City Electric region president. "We want to empower them, provide them every opportunity to succeed and show them the doors that can open through STEM. We are extremely proud to support an organization helping to educate the workforce of tomorrow."

A portion of the funding will enable the Boys and Girls Club to deliver a STEM curriculum for elementary, middle school and high school students. The projects and assignments focus on energy and electricity, engineering design, food chemistry, introduction to aeronautics, the science of sports, and club-wide STEM field trips. The program will also expose students to STEM careers, including those in the energy sector, while reinforcing skills in science, technology, engineering and math.

"It is our job to make everything fun and exciting," said Christa Cooper, Boys and Girls Club Paulsboro unit director. "Through these fun programs, the students learn by accident and that is amazing. Atlantic City Electric's donation makes that possible and we are so thankful for that."

The donation will also help fund energy efficient building enhancements for the Paulsboro club's current lighting and heating systems. The lighting will be converted to LED lighting and the heating will be converted from oil to gas. Installation of these energy saving features will greatly reduce the monthly electrical and oil costs, allowing the funds to be used towards program activities and the staff who implement them.

Over the past three years, Atlantic City Electric has provided more than $100,000 in support to the Boys and Girls Clubs in Gloucester County and Atlantic City, New Jersey.
