​MAYS LANDING, N.J. (May 8, 2018) – Atlantic City Electric employees volunteered nearly 1,300 hours at a variety of community service events throughout South Jersey in celebration of National Volunteer Month in April. Employees supported arts and culture, community development, environmental sustainability, and education initiatives that align with the company's purpose of powering a cleaner and brighter future for its customers and communities.​

"Our employee-led volunteer team is instrumental in identifying and participating in volunteer opportunities to support nonprofit organizations throughout our service area," said Susan Coan, Atlantic City Electric region vice president. "I am very proud that hundreds of our employees engaged in more than 20 volunteer initiatives, raising more than $10,000 during National Volunteer Month, in addition to supporting nearly 300 local organizations throughout the year."

Atlantic City Electric employees have been strong supporters of nonprofit and civic partners for many years, and service highlights this year included:

• Nearly 50 Atlantic City Electric employees, their family members and friends, participated in Clean Ocean Action's annual beach sweep in Atlantic City. Atlantic City Electric volunteers removed more than 8,000 pieces of debris littered across the city's beaches and recorded the quantity and types of debris found. Resulting data will be published into annual reports to help identify pollution problems, aid legislators in enacting laws to protect the marine environment, and inform local, state, and international efforts to combat marine pollution.

• About 60 Atlantic City Electric employees participated in the Atlantic County Utilities Authority's Earth Day Event, the largest event of its kind in Atlantic County. The annual event promotes recycling, renewable energy, and conservation. Atlantic City Electric volunteers provided attendees information on vegetation management, underground facility protection, clean energy programs, environmental initiatives, emergency management and safety, and information on energy assistance and efficiency, among other topics.

• More than 100 Atlantic City Electric employees, their family members and friends, joined representatives with the Funny Farm Rescue Animal Sanctuary in cleaning the stalls, grounds and facilities that shelter unwanted, sick, injured and abused animals. The Funny Farm Rescue Animal Sanctuary is a 15-acre privately-owned farm in southern New Jersey that cares for more than 550 animals.
