MAYS LANDING, N.J. -  In response to recent casino closings resulting in the loss of about 8,000 jobs, Atlantic City Electric and Exelon, in collaboration with the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, Southern Branch, held a volunteer event Nov. 15 at the Food Bank's Egg Harbor Township, N.J., location to benefit those in need. About 125 Atlantic City Electric and Exelon employees and their families worked side-by-side with the Food Bank to pack boxes with donated food for residents in need this holiday season.

To support this volunteer event, Atlantic City Electric and Exelon held food drives at locations across the two companies resulting in more than 4,600 pounds of food collected to help stock the cupboards of the Food Bank. Also as part of this initiative, Atlantic City Electric and Exelon donated $30,000 to the Food Bank, which is estimated to provide food to about 1,500 families.

"Atlantic City Electric has a longstanding commitment to the Food Bank," said Vince Maione, Atlantic City Electric region president. "We believe it's important to support local organizations, like the Food Bank, that make a difference in the lives of others. We have an obligation to help meet the needs of residents and our customers by assisting organizations that benefit those in need."

"Like Atlantic City Electric, Exelon believes in giving back to our communities and helping those in need."

Through community outreach, Atlantic City Electric is also providing displaced workers with information on agencies that can help maintain essential services as well as providing information on energy assistance programs available through the state. Atlantic City Electric and Exelon are committed to supporting local communities through volunteer initiatives, charitable contributions and community outreach endeavors.
