MAYS LANDING, N.J. - Atlantic City Electric recently donated 250 smoke alarms to the Camden County Fire Marshal's office as part of the company's Emergency Services Partnership Program. The donation was made during a presentation honoring the late Chief Fire Marshal Paul E. Harstein and retired Chief Fire Marshal David G. Aron, who dedicated their lives to ensuring the safety of Camden County's residents. Roadways leading to the Camden County Regional Emergency Training Center at the Lakeland Complex in Gloucester Township are now named in their honor.

Through the Emergency Services Partnership Program, 2,000 10-year long-life fire safety alarms will be dispersed to eight counties within Atlantic City Electric's service area. The donation provides much needed resources for county fire marshals, who give the smoke alarms to New Jersey residents who need them.   

"Through donations like this, Atlantic City Electric continues to support public safety entities such as fire service, law enforcement and emergency management through our Emergency Services Partnership Program," said Vince Maione, Atlantic City Electric region president. "We're proud to partner with New Jersey's county fire marshals in our service territory to help keep residents safe."

"I personally understand the importance of providing these impactful tools to every home in the county.  Last year, during a fire at my home I saw firsthand the roles smoke detectors play in making sure my children and wife got out of a burning building alive," said Scot McCray, Camden County freeholder. "I would like to thank Atlantic City Electric and their dedication to the people of Camden County and assisting the Freeholders with their commitment to public safety."

Lowe's Home Improvement supplied the smoke alarms at a reduced cost to help support this effort. Since 2000, Atlantic City Electric has donated 24,900 smoke alarms and 720 special-needs smoke alarms that emit a bright strobe light and high-decibel audible alarm to alert individuals of the presence of smoke, to fire safety officials in southern New Jersey.
