MAYS LANDING, N.J. - Atlantic City Electric asks all of its customers to conserve energy from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday as part of a test event required by PJM, the Regional Transmission Organization or grid operator for New Jersey. The power supply in the region is expected to be sufficient to meet demand.
For customers participating in Atlantic City Electric's voluntary Energy Wise Rewards program, a conservation period will be called from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday. This means that Atlantic City Electric will cycle the participants' air conditioner compressors off and on for short intervals during this one hour test. Because the air conditioner fans will continue to run, most customers will not notice a temperature change in their home, and those who do should experience only a 1 to 3 degree change. It may take up to a half-hour after the event ends at 3 p.m. for air conditioners to resume normal operations.
Energy Wise Rewards is a voluntary program for customers, offering a choice of a programmable thermostat or an outdoor switch, which the utility installs at no charge to customers. During summer periods of peak electric demand, Energy Wise Rewards works to reduce electricity usage by cycling air conditioner compressors off and on for short periods during times of peak electricity use.
Atlantic City Electric asks all customers to conserve electricity. Customers can take simple conservation steps:
