MAYS LANDING, N.J. - As part of ongoing reliability enhancements, Atlantic City Electric has completed construction of a new distribution substation located between Proposed and Pennsylvania avenues in the Janvier section of Franklin Township, N.J. The new substation, which will serve about 16,000 customers, will enhance reliability and help support the current and future demand for electricity in the township.
"Atlantic City Electric is committed to providing our communities with safe and reliable service," said Vince Maione, Atlantic City Electric region president. "The new substation will further improve service reliability for our customers in Franklin Township and the surrounding area."
Before the new substation, power to the Franklin Township area was delivered through distribution lines that were fed from substations located in Clayton Borough, Landisville and Williamstown, N.J. Power will now be delivered through shorter distribution lines, which are less susceptible to storm damage due to the shorter distance the lines travel. The shorter distance will also allow for quicker restoration in the event of an outage.
The company also worked with the Department of Environmental Protection to ensure there was no impact to any environmentally sensitive area around the substation.
