Utility Recognizes Cape May County Emergency Management Communications Center
MAYS LANDING, N.J. - Atlantic City Electric today presented its annual Merit of Excellence Award for Commitment to Public Safety to the Cape May County Emergency Management Communications Center for its significant contribution to emergency preparedness and safety in Southern New Jersey. The presentation was made during the New Jersey Emergency Preparedness Conference at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, N.J.
"This year we recognize an agency that has always been a great resource for our company, and especially during the last two major storms that impacted South Jersey," said Tom Born, Atlantic City Electric Manager of Emergency Management. "Those storms were the February blizzards of 2010 and Hurricane Irene."
During the blizzards, the agency assisted with snow removal, provided valuable road status information, provided logistical support for Atlantic City Electric Emergency Management Center Liaison employees, and worked closely with the governor's office during trying and stressful days.
During Hurricane Irene, the agency was the lead in evacuating an entire county and it partnered with Atlantic City Electric in identifying and helping to prioritize restoration issues.
"Our company values the strong relationship we have and wants to recognize them today for always providing us the necessary information so we can restore our customers in a safe and timely manner," Born said.
The Merit of Excellence Award for Commitment to Public Safety helps promote and honor an individual or organization that has committed time and talent to residents and visitors in Southern New Jersey. Atlantic City Electric supports the New Jersey Emergency Preparedness Conference through its Emergency Services Partnership Program, which provides resources for safety initiatives, education, recruitment and retention activities, and scholarship opportunities for police, fire, and emergency management officials.
