Utility Awards Educational Grants to Promote Wise Energy Projects

MAYS LANDING, N.J. - Atlantic City Electric recently presented a check for $1,000 to the Tuckerton Elementary School in Tuckerton, N.J. The school was one of five in Southern New Jersey selected to receive a $1,000 grant from the utility's Mini-Grant Educational Program. Recipients include Pittsgrove Township Middle School, Sovereign Avenue School, Charles Sandman School and Caroline L. Reutter School.

The Mini-Grant Educational program, which is now in its third year, is designed to support public and private classroom teachers with funds for new, innovative projects and extensions of currently funded projects within the schools. It offers up to $1,000 for selected proposals that focus on energy related issues such as electrical safety, wise energy use, local alternative energy sources, environmental impact, economic implications and energy-related science content. Funds can be used to purchase materials, conduct special lessons and implement special classroom projects not typically supported by school funding.

Since inception, the Atlantic City Electric Mini-Grant Program has donated more than $14,000 dollars to schools throughout its service territory.
