Atlantic City Electric Urges Customers to Apply for Energy Assistance

Company Partners to Connect Community Need and Resources

MAYS LANDING, N.J.. - Atlantic City Electric recently joined with a variety of local organizations to help connect those in need with assistance programs and services available in the community. Organizations included United Way of Atlantic County, the Atlantic County Sheriff's R.E.AL Help program, South Jersey Gas Co. and other local agencies. Working together, the group presented the Economic & Energy Assistance Resource Expo, a free event at the Shore Mall in Egg Harbor Township. Approximately 250 customers attended the event aimed at connecting those in need with assistance programs and services available in the community.

Our goal is to connect our residents with help," said John Emge, Executive Director of United Way of Atlantic County. "It's important to be proactive and seek information early; there are options and programs available."

"We recognize that many are struggling to pay their electric bills during these tough economic times. We encourage everyone to not wait until they are at the point where their service could be disconnected. Instead, they should contact one or more of the New Jersey agencies that provide programs aimed to help residents who are at risk of having their electric service disconnected," said Charlie Wimberg, Atlantic City Electric Region Vice President.

This year, $25 million in Temporary Relief for Utility Expenses (TRUE) Program funding was granted to the Affordable Housing Alliance (AHA). TRUE is a utility assistance program for low- to moderate-income households struggling to pay off a past-due balance on their gas and/or electric account. Any qualified household will receive a one-time payment towards their gas and/or electric bill. This will either completely eliminate a past-due balance or provide enough payment to allow the household to become "current" with their bill.
