Eddie's Energized Exercisers Win Top Corporate Fundraising Team Award
MAYS LANDING, N.J. - Atlantic City Electric recently supported the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Association of Greater Philadelphia's 10th annual Walk to Defeat ALS on the Ocean City boardwalk. Raising more than $5,000, Atlantic City Electric's team (Eddie's Energized Exercisers) won the Top Corporate Fundraising Team Award at the event Sept. 24.
Having no known cause, treatment or cure, ALS patients usually live two to five years after diagnosis. This condition is also known as Lou Gehrig's disease after the New York Yankees' great who died of the disease at 51.
Atlantic City Electric Senior Public Affairs Manager Veronica Town is especially familiar with the distress of living with ALS. Her husband, Ed Town, died 18 months after his diagnosis in 1998. Town and Eddie's Energized Exercisers walked on Saturday in his memory and in support of others with the fatal disease.
The ALS Association of Greater Philadelphia helped the Towns as Ed's health declined.
"I can't thank the ALS Association or my co-workers enough. They helped us in so many ways," she said. "They provided equipment and guidance that helped support us through a very difficult time. And I'm heartened that, through this event, my co-workers at Atlantic City Electric continue to help others suffering from the same debilitating disease."
