Atlantic City Electric Completes Restoration from Hurricane Irene

Utility Thanks Crews, Customers and Public Agencies

Atlantic City Electric has restored service to all customers whose power is known to have been interrupted as a result of Hurricane Irene and who can safely accept electric service.

The conclusion marks the end of a massive four-day effort across southern New Jersey after the departure of the storm. Hundreds of linemen from Atlantic City Electric, other utilities and contractors worked around the clock repairing poles, wires, transformers and other equipment needed to deliver power to customers.

"We appreciate the tireless efforts of the many field personnel involved in this restoration, along with the support and cooperation of countless public and volunteer agencies as we joined together to help the region recover from this natural disaster," said Vince Maione, Atlantic City Electric Region President. "We also extend our deepest thanks to our customers for their patience and understanding throughout this event."

The company began executing its emergency response plan nearly a week before Irene swept into the mid-Atlantic region. The utility monitored the progress of the storm and began arranging for mutual assistance from other utilities. According to unofficial reports, at the peak of the outages Sunday morning, Atlantic City Electric had more than 140,000 customers without service.

The utility recognizes that there still may be outages from the storm that are unreported -- such as customers who are away and eventually will return to report their outage. There also are customers whose homes have been damaged and, at this time, cannot safely accept the restoration of electric service.

Following such a damaging storm, tree limbs weakened by the weather can continue to fall on lines and interrupt service for an extended period. To that end, we remind customers to report them by calling 800-833-7476.

Atlantic City Electric, a public utility owned by Pepco Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: POM), provides safe, reliable and affordable regulated electric delivery services to more than 548,000 customers in southern New Jersey.
