Atlantic City Electric Continues Massive Restoration Effort

Linemen Race to Restore Service for Labor Day Weekend

MAYS LANDING, N.J. - Atlantic City Electric continues to battle widespread power outages and repair the electrical system after the destruction of Hurricane Irene. Assessment teams have surveyed damage across the service territory to help guide the restoration work and crews have been addressing public safety issues in a massive restoration effort. Linemen are working around the clock.

"We have deployed crews throughout Southern New Jersey and are giving our maximum effort to restore power to our customers," said Joseph M. Rigby, President and Chief Executive Officer, Pepco Holdings, Inc. "We recognize the urgency of the situation as residents and businesses are counting on us to restore power for Labor Day weekend. We have secured even more personnel and resources from our mutual assistance partners. They will work around the clock in a massive effort."

Atlantic City Electric also announced its Global Estimated Time of Restoration (ETR), the time the company expects it will have power restored to all of its customers. Atlantic City Electric Region President, Vincent Maione, said the company estimates power will be restored to all customers no later than midnight, Friday, Sep. 2.

"Our restoration efforts began as soon as conditions permitted," said Maione. "Despite the direct impact of the storm on the Southern New Jersey Coast, we determined that conditions never warranted the precautionary de-energizing of lines on the barrier islands. Our crews were permitted to access these evacuated areas Sunday morning where they conducted damage assessment to help guide their repairs."

At the peak of the outage, over 140,000 customers were without power. By this morning, Atlantic City Electric had restored service to thousands of customers. Currently, about 52,000 customers remain without power, but the Company expects to restore power for all of those customers before the start of Labor Day weekend.
