Atlantic City Electric Awards Teacher Mini-Grants

Grants Support School Projects that Promote Wise Energy Use

MAYS LANDING, N.J. - Recently, Cranberry Pines Elementary School in Medford, N.J. showcased the various ways the Medford School District has gone green and the importance of energy conservation. Singing two songs and demonstrating their presentation skills, a group of 3rd graders surprised Ryan Watkins, Engineer and Tom Reilly, Public Affairs Manager, with the knowledge they gained thanks, in part, to a $1,000 donation from the company's Mini-Grant Program. The school was one of eight in southern New Jersey selected to receive a $1000 grant. Other recipients include Middle Township High School, Tuckerton Elementary School, Ventnor Educational Community Complex, Thomas Richards School of Waterford Township, Pittsgrove Township Middle School and West Deptford High School.

The Atlantic City Electric Mini-Grant Program is designed to support public and private classroom teachers with funds for new, innovative projects and extensions of currently funded projects within the schools. The Mini-Grant Program is now in its second year and offers up to $1000 for selected proposals that focus on energy related issues, such as electrical safety, wise energy use, local alternative energy sources, environmental impact, economic implications and energy-related science content. The funds can be used to purchase materials, conduct special lessons and implement special classroom projects not typically supported by school funding.

"Cranberry Pines Elementary put on a wonderful demonstration displaying how our contribution assisted in providing a strong educational foundation of energy conservation," Reilly said.
