American Red Cross Recognized for Commitment to Public Safety
MAYS LANDING, N.J - Atlantic City Electric today presented its fifth Annual Merit of Excellence Award to the American Red Cross Southern Shore Chapter for their exemplary leadership and service to public safety in Southern New Jersey. The presentation was made during the New Jersey Emergency Preparedness Conference held at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, N.J.
The award was accepted by Pamela Grites, Executive Director of the American Red Cross Southern Shore Chapter for the chapter's work in the name of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness.
Atlantic City Electric has partnered many years with the American Red Cross Southern Shore Chapter to support their disaster relief mission. For years, in spite of extreme weather conditions, the Southern Shore Chapter provided shelter for customers while electric service was being restored. In 2010, they worked side by side with Atlantic City Electric, state, local and county emergency management organizations during a series of challenging storms.
In addition to its disaster relief mission, this chapter also provides life saving training such as CPR, First Aid, AED-Automatic External Defibrillator and disaster preparedness, "said Tom Born, Atlantic City Electric Manager of Emergency Management. "We commend this chapter for providing essential education to our customers, for saving many lives and for making our communities safer."
The Merit of Excellence Award was created to help promote and honor an individual or organization that has committed time and talent to the residents and visitors in Southern New Jersey. Atlantic City Electric supports the New Jersey Emergency Preparedness Conference through its Emergency Services Partnership Program, which provides resources for safety initiatives, education, recruitment and retention activities, and scholarship opportunities for police, fire, and emergency management officials.
