Grants Support School Projects that Promote Wise Energy Use
MAYS LANDING, N.J . - Atlantic City Electric recently presented a check for $1000 to the Woodbine Elementary School in Woodbine, N.J. The school was one of eight in South Jersey selected to receive a $1000 grant from the utility's Mini-Grant Program. Recipients include Middle Township High School, Tuckerton Elementary School, Ventnor Educational Community Complex, Thomas Richards School of Waterford Township, Cranberry Pines Elementary School of Medford Township, Pittsgrove Township Middle School and West Deptford High School.
The program is designed to support public and private classroom teachers with funds for new, innovative projects and extensions of currently funded projects within the schools. The Mini-Grant Program is now in its second year and offers up to $1000 for selected proposals that focus on energy related issues, such as electrical safety, wise energy use, local alternative energy sources, environmental impact, economic implications and energy-related science content. The funds can be used to purchase materials, conduct special lessons and implement special classroom projects not typically supported by school funding.
"Atlantic City Electric realizes the value in teaching children about electrical safety and energy conservation," said Charlie Wimberg, Atlantic City Electric Region Vice President. "We're proud to work with the teachers and students who developed the selected projects."
Since inception, the Atlantic City Electric Mini-Grant Program has donated more than $9000 dollars to schools throughout its service territory.
