Funding to Improve Habitats in Cape May Point

MAYS LANDING, N.J. - Atlantic City Electric recently presented a check for $25,000 to the New Jersey Audubon Society (NJAS) in Cape May Point, N.J. This donation is one of several where Atlantic City Electric has invested in wetland restoration and forest stewardship projects through the NJAS Important Bird and Birding Areas Program.

Thomas Gilmore, President, New Jersey Audubon Society, said the project is part of a global effort to identify and conserve areas that are important for maintaining bird populations. These projects seek to prevent the dwindling of wildlife populations as forest and wetland habitats are lost to development.

NJAS, local residents and other volunteers work together identifying, restoring and monitoring important bird areas and advocating for good land stewardship in their communities. NJAS Stewardship Project Director Jean Lynch explained that land stewardship involves caring for natural habitats that support area wildlife.

"Atlantic City Electric appreciates the opportunity to help the New Jersey Audubon Society and community volunteers in their efforts to enhance wildlife habitats in this area," said Atlantic City Electric Region Vice President Charlie Wimberg. "It's another opportunity to show our commitment to the communities we serve."
