Non-Profit Organization Receives Funds to Support Historic Landmark
MAYS LANDING, N.J. - Atlantic City Electric recently donated $10,000 to the Absecon Lighthouse during a presentation at the historic landmark located in the Inlet section of Atlantic City, N.J.
"We are honored to be able to assist in supporting such an historical asset," said Atlantic City Electric Region Vice President Charlie Wimberg. "The Absecon Lighthouse serves as an invaluable resource for learning the history of Atlantic City, especially for the youth living in the communities we serve."
The Absecon Lighthouse went into operation in 1857 and was the first of New Jersey's three sister lighthouses to be built; the others are Barnegat and Cape May. It also is the tallest lighthouse in New Jersey and the third tallest in the country.
"It makes sense for the oldest lighthouse in Atlantic City to have Atlantic City Electric as a partner, and we're thrilled for the endorsement and support of our efforts to keep it lit," said, Jean Muchanic, Executive Director, Absecon Lighthouse.
