Atlantic City Electric Appreciates Community Patience and Cooperation

Crews Working to Restore Service as Quickly and Safely as Possible

MAYS LANDING, N.J . - Atlantic City Electric crews continue work to repair extensive damage caused by a violent storm that swept through our area Thursday evening.

Work continues in the areas hardest hit, which include Waterford, Stratford and Laurel Springs. Outages were largely caused by high winds, lightning strikes and downed trees, limbs and wires.

"We have been in close contact with our local offices of emergency management and continue to provide updates to our local legislators," said Vince Maione, President, Atlantic City Electric Region. "It has been a community effort."

Many of the customers still without service will be restored by this evening with a sparse few going into Monday morning. Atlantic City Electric has restored 18,015 customers in the past 24 hours.

Atlantic City Electric would like to thank all of the mutual assistance crews that came from surrounding states to help rebuild our electric system. "This was a quick burst of nature's fury that left parts of the electric system devastated," Maione said. "We appreciate all of the help we've received in this recovery."

Atlantic City Electric reminds customers to follow these important safety tips:

· Never attempt to remove trees or limbs from a utility line and do not touch fallen wires. Assume they are energized and could cause a serious or fatal injury.

· If using a portable generator during a power outage, always operate it outside, away from doors and windows to prevent deadly carbon monoxide fumes from entering the home.

· Do not connect your generator directly into your home's main fuse box or circuit panel.

· Due to the extreme heat, it is recommended that people seek shelter in public places with working air conditioning, such as libraries, shopping malls, etc.
