Local Meteorologist Recognized for Commitment to Public Safety
MAYS LANDING, N.J. - Atlantic City Electric today presented its fourth Annual Merit of Excellence Award to James Eberwine for his exemplary leadership and service to public safety in southern New Jersey.
The award was presented at the New Jersey Emergency Preparedness Conference at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Jim began working in meteorology when he provided weather support to the 3rd Maine Air Wing where he worked as President Nixon's weather information specialist. He continued in this field until he retired from the National Weather Service as a senior forecaster. He also worked closely with his community through the American Red Cross and played a key role in the creation of the New Jersey Emergency Preparedness Conference.
"We recognize the value of Jim's work, teaching weather forecasting to employees within the various Offices of Emergency Management and supplying accurate forecasts to New Jersey residents and visitors. Great relationships have formed as a result of his dealings with other local emergency managers, meteorologists and the general public," said Tom Born, Atlantic City Electric Manager of Emergency Management. "Jim is truly deserving of this honor."
This award was created to help promote and honor an individual or organization that has committed time and talent to the residents and visitors in southern New Jersey. Atlantic City Electric supports the New Jersey Emergency Preparedness Conference through its Emergency Services Partnership Program, which provides resources for safety initiatives, education, recruitment and retention activities, and scholarship opportunities for police, fire, and emergency management officials.
