Mutual Assistance Crews Join Restoration Effort
MAYS LANDING, N.J. - Atlantic City Electric, with the assistance of several neighboring utility crews, has restored power to more than 72,000 customers impacted by this weekend's severe winter storm.
The company estimates power will be restored to most of its customers by late Tuesday, but due to the difficult travel conditions and challenges with accessing equipment there will be some customers in Cape May County who may not be restored until later in the week. Atlantic City Electric urges customers to call the outage line at 1-800-833-7476 for any updates regarding their specific outage.
"The road conditions have made the assessment of damage and the restoration of electric service challenging, but we continue to make progress in our effort to restore service to customers affected by this weekend's powerful winter storm," said Vincent Maione, President, Atlantic City Electric Region. "We thank our customers for their patience as our crews work around the clock to restore their service."
As part of the restoration effort, Atlantic City Electric is receiving assistance from neighboring utilities, including Jersey Central Power and Light, Orange and Rockland, Public Service Electric and Gas and Con Edison.
"Fortunately, the utilities have a good, mutual understanding for helping one another out. We're thankful for their assistance during this time of need," Maione said.
As of 5 p.m. Sunday, Atlantic City Electric had approximately 43,000 customers without power with the large majority of those outages in Cape May County. "This is an extended restoration effort, meaning many customers may be without service for up to several days," Maione said. "We encourage customers to plan accordingly, but keep safety as their number one priority."
As utility crews work hard to restore power, Atlantic City Electric strongly urged anyone who may see a downed or damaged power line to report it immediately by calling the company's outage line. "We are urging everyone to stay away from downed or damaged power line," Maione said.
Additionally, for customers without power, Atlantic City Electric urges them to unplug or turn off any major appliances since they have the potential to overload system circuits and cause an unnecessary outage when power is restored.
