Utility is Working with State, Local Officials to Access Hard Hit Areas

MAYS LANDING, N.J. - The winter storm continues to wreak havoc and cause widespread outages in Atlantic City Electric's eight-county service territory across southern New Jersey, resulting in significant damage to electrical equipment in Cape May and Atlantic counties.

"Our first priority is public health and safety. We are working closely with everyone, from the Governor's Office to the local public officials, in this effort," said Vincent Maione, President, Atlantic City Electric Region.

The strong winds and heavy, wet snow have caused significant damage including fallen tree limbs and whole trees which have brought down power lines and damaged utility poles.

"Restoring electric service as quickly and safely as possible in the communities we serve is our priority," Maione said. "However, the weather conditions are making access to our electrical equipment extra challenging for our crews. While we will continue to work around the clock until every customer is restored, this is a multi-day event ."

As of 4 p.m. today, Atlantic City Electric had approximately 67,000 customers without power, with 90 percent of those customers residing in Cape May County.

"Because our power restoration efforts will be slowed some given the extreme weather conditions, we recommend impacted customers make plans accordingly, but use caution and be safe," Maione said.

Atlantic City Electric continues to restore as many outages as quickly and safely as possible. The restoration process focuses on restoring the largest groups of customers as possible.

The priorities are:

o Downed live wires or potentially life-threatening situations

o Public health and safety facilities without power

o Transmission lines serving thousands of customers

o Substation equipment

o Main distribution lines serving large numbers of customers

o Secondary lines serving neighborhoods

o Service lines to individual homes and businesses
