PHI Corporate Headquarters Wins Major Environmental Award

Edison Place Building Earns First LEED® (EBOM) Certificate

Pepco Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: POM) announces that Edison Place, its corporate headquarters building, has received the first U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance (LEED EBOM) certification in Washington, DC. The project achieved Gold certification.

"This project demonstrates PHI's commitment to environmental sustainability," said Hallie Reese, Vice President, Safety and Strategic Services. "Many thanks go to Annalisa Givens, Cassidy & Pinkard Colliers' onsite Senior Property Manager, and her staff for their tremendous contributions during the process of earning the LEED EBOM Gold Certification at Edison Place. They worked very closely with the PHI team and this is a great demonstration of how two entities can partner to achieve a common vision of environmental stewardship."

"Edison Place's LEED certification demonstrates tremendous green building leadership," said Rick Fedrizzi, President, CEO & Founding Chair, U.S. Green Building Council. "The urgency of USGBC's mission has challenged the industry to move faster and reach further than ever before, and Edison Place serves as a prime example with just how much we can accomplish."

Edison Place is a 400,000 square foot Class A office building located at 701 Ninth St., NW. Cassidy & Pinkard Colliers was a critical partner in the process that led to the building's certification; a process that began in 2007 as part of PHI's Blueprint for the Future plan to use technology and energy efficiency to meet the nation's energy challenges.

Highlights of the project included:

  • Full building retro-commissioning and implementation of select energy conservation measures, reducing the building's energy consumption by 16.7%, and CO2 emissions by over 507.78 metric tons.
  •  Implementation of a water efficiency program, including plumbing fixture retrofits, process water control upgrades and installation of native and adaptive landscaping, reducing potable water consumption by over 1,120,000 gallons.
  • Implementation of a waste stream audit and occupant education programs to increase the amount of recycling and waste diversion in the building.

"The Edison Place team, led by Genet Ketsela, Manager, D.C. Facility Operations & Maintenance, and PHI's Corporate Environmental Services Group; and the building management team led by Annalisa Givens from Cassidy & Pinkard Colliers, worked very hard to ensure that the appropriate projects were identified to continue the energy-efficient vision of this building," said Dave Motil , PHI Group Manager of Facilities, Security & Real Estate. "We are extremely proud of PHI's commitment to being a front runner in addressing the global energy challenges ahead of us."
