Good time to prepare for emergencies as storms threaten region
MAYS LANDING, N.J. - With the onset of the peak Atlantic hurricane season and September's designation as National Preparedness Month, Atlantic City Electric today advised customers to plan ahead for emergencies and avoid last-minute scrambling.
"This is a good time to be prepared," said Tom Born, Manager of Atlantic City Electric's Emergency Preparedness Team. "Any one of these storms churning in the Atlantic is a potential threat to the mid-Atlantic region, possibly as early as this weekend."
Atlantic City Electric is a participant in the 5th annual National Preparedness Month Ready Campaign sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security in a nationwide effort to encourage individuals, families, businesses and communities to prepare for emergencies.
The Ready Campaign and its DHS partner, Citizen Corps, says Americans should take a few simple steps to prepare by having an emergency kit; making a plan, being informed about the different types of emergencies and responses, and getting involved in community emergency preparedness activities.
