Web site for The Mid-Atlantic Power Pathway
Washington, D.C.-- Pepco Holdings, Inc. (PHI), parent company of Atlantic City Electric, announced today the launch of www.powerpathway.com as an educational tool for the community to learn more about the Mid-Atlantic Power Pathway (MAPP).
MAPP is a new 230-mile 500-kilovolt transmission line that will serve Washington D.C., Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey and Virginia. Regional investor-owned utilities, electric cooperatives and municipal-owned electric companies will all draw power from this line to meet customers' increasing energy needs.
"This Web site is part of our commitment to keeping the community updated and informed on the progress we are making. We look forward to continuing our communication efforts with local residents throughout the construction of this project," said William Gausman, Vice President, Asset Management.
The Web site features basic information about MAPP including an overview of the project, details of energy consumption in the area and a projected construction schedule. The site also includes frequently asked questions, a press room and contact information for anyone wanting additional information about the line. In addition, the Web site contains a Locating MAPP feature which will allow visitors to download detailed maps of their counties and view the proposed path of the line.
It has been 25 years since the last major interstate electricity transmission line was built in the Mid-Atlantic region. During this time, the population of the region has grown significantly and today American households use 21 percent more power than 30 years ago.
Gausman added, "The U.S. Department of Energy has said the region will be facing an energy crisis if we do not plan for and construct new transmission lines. Pepco Holdings, Inc. is acting now to create a logical transmission solution and avoid potential future energy shortfalls."
