Mays Landing, N.J. - Atlantic City Electric has selected the beneficiaries of its 2nd Annual Fall Charity Golf Classic. Selected to receive a major portion of this year's net proceeds are the Community Food Bank of New Jersey - Southern Division, the Habitat for Humanity Atlantic and Cumberland counties. Other southern New Jersey non-profit agencies also will receive a portion of proceeds from the event.
Atlantic City Electric's First Fall Charity Golf Classic held September 2006 raised more than $125,000 for southern New Jersey non-profit agencies.
"Our hope is that this year's event will surpass last year's in total dollars raised for our communities," said Kenneth Parker, President, Atlantic City Electric Region. "Southern New Jersey's business community already has let us know it values this initiative that benefits our region's communities."
"The funds from this event will help us continue to build decent, affordable homes in partnership with carefully selected families," said Debbie Murray, Executive Director, Atlantic County Habitat for Humanity. "It is not a giveaway program. In addition to a down payment and the monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest their own labor into building their Habitat house.
Carlos Mercado, Director, Cumberland County Habitat for Humanity, agreed. "While Habitat is trying to keep the costs of the homes affordable, the cost of everything, especially lumber, has gone up. Partnerships with our local businesses such as Atlantic City Electric will enable us to continue to build affordable homes for families in need."
"This partnership with Atlantic City Electric comes at a perfect time," said Evelyn Benton, Director, Community Food Bank of NJ - Southern Branch. "It is our organization's 20th anniversary, and the number of people needing help is greater than ever. What better way to celebrate than to have the funds to help provide groceries to the less fortunate in our community."
The 2007 Atlantic City Electric Charity Golf Classic will be held Sept. 10 at the Marriott Seaview Country Club Resort in Galloway, New Jersey. Seaview is one of the premier golf facilities in the region.
