Remnants from Wilma Hit Coastal Areas Hardest

Some 90 percent of the estimated 21,000 Atlantic City Electric customers knocked out of service by the remnants of Hurricane Wilma have had their power restored. Crews continue to work as quickly as safety permits to restore power to all customers. Based on our latest assessment, the majority of our customers should have their service restored by this evening, although some customers along the coastline will not have power until mid-day or later on Wednesday due to the damage caused by the storm. The majority of the remaining outages are located in Cape May County.

Remnants from Hurricane Wilma hurtled up the eastern coastline through the night hitting our area with force about 10 P.M. Monday. The storm kicked up high winds with gusts now estimated to be as high as 70 mph along the coastal areas and dumped significant rain in the region.

Persistent windy conditions throughout the day continued to cause problems, mainly in the coastal regions. The rain overnight and into today has added to the already saturated region causing areas of flooding and increasing the probability of trees toppling into power lines. Atlantic City Electric crews continue to work to restore the remaining customers, the majority of whom are located in Cape May County.

Customers who are experiencing an outage and who have not yet done so are urged to report that outage by calling 1-800-833-7476.
