Mays Landing, N.J. - Matt Simons, Atlantic City Electric Staff Forester and 19-year veteran of the company, has been named Utility Arborist Association Utility Arborist of the Year. The award, presented at the Association's annual meeting held in Tennessee, is bestowed on a member who has made a significant contribution to the field of utility arborists.
The Utility Arborist Association is dedicated to developing utility industry standards and educating the public of utility needs while maintaining arboricultural activities. Simons is an active member and past president of Association and presently is working to prepare a new standards manual for integrated vegetation management. Integrated vegetation management combines mechanical, chemical, cultural and biological control methods to manage vegetation around electricity infrastructure that meet safety and reliability needs while improving the habitat of the region's flora and fauna.
The Utility Arborist Association is affiliated with the International Society of Arboriculture, a worldwide professional organization with approximately 17,000 members who are dedicated to fostering a greater public awareness of the benefits of trees and the professional practice of arboriculture.
Simons and his family reside in Galloway Township.
