Atlantic City Electric recognized approximately
100 employees during its recent Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast held at the
Buena Vista Country Club. The annual event honors company employees who make a
difference in their respective communities through volunteerism. Debbie Lucca
of Egg Harbor Township and Kenyatta Brown of Somers Point were named the Atlantic
City Electric 2015 Volunteers of the Year.
“Our commitment to the community is
very important,” said Vince Maione, Atlantic City Electric region president.
“We are thrilled so many of our employees participate in events and volunteer
initiatives each year to support numerous organizations in the communities we
live and work.”
Lucca is a recent retiree after
serving the company for more than 37 years. She has been instrumental in organizing
and participating in numerous volunteer events and initiatives with Atlantic
City Electric and in her community. “I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to
help make a difference in someone’s life through volunteerism,” she said. Lucca
annually organized Atlantic City Electric’s Holiday Gift Drive as well as the
company’s volunteer endeavors and fund raising efforts with organizations
including United Way of Atlantic and Cape May counties, the Atlantic County
Utilities Authority through its Earth Day event, the American Heart
Association’s Heart Walk and the Special Olympics Floor Hockey event. Lucca
also volunteers as an organist in her church and teaches youth bible studies.
A former United States Marine,
Atlantic City Electric lineman Kenyatta Brown has served the company for the
past eight years. Brown volunteers in operating the Atlantic City Electric
Safety Trailer and participates in various company sponsored collection drives
throughout the year. “It’s great to work for a company that genuinely believes
in the importance of volunteerism,” he said. In December, Brown spearheaded a
collection asking fellow employees to donate funds in support of the Community
FoodBank of New Jersey, Southern Branch. Brown and his co-workers
met the challenge and collected more than $1,500 for the FoodBank.
addition, Atlantic City Electric employees volunteered at the FoodBank in
packing boxes with donated food items for those in need and held food drives
across various company locations resulting in the collection of more than 900
pounds of food.
Also recognized with certificates of
appreciation were the Atlantic City Electric linemen that operate the company’s
Safety Trailer that is used throughout the community to educate students,
first responders, emergency personnel, among other groups on electrical safety.
Atlantic City Electric’s Volunteer
Initiative Program encourages employee participation in community volunteer
activities. Each year, dozens of ACE employees donate tens of thousands of
hours of their personal time to help support local organizations, community
events and volunteer initiatives.
