Electric asks customers to conserve energy on Thursday, July 30 from 2 to 6 p.m. as high temperatures are
forecasted for the region. Power supply in the region is expected to be
sufficient to meet anticipated high demand.
For customers participating in Atlantic
City Electric’s Energy Wise Rewards Program, a conservation event will be
called July 30 from 2 to 6 p.m. This means that
Atlantic City Electric will cycle participants’ air conditioner compressors off
and on for short intervals during these hours. Because the air conditioner fans
will continue to run, most customers will not notice a temperature change in
their home. It may take up to a half-hour after the test event ends for air
conditioners to resume normal operations.
Energy Wise Rewards is a voluntary
program that offers customers a choice of a web-programmable thermostat or an
outdoor switch, which the utility installs at no charge to the customer. During
summer periods of peak electric demand, Energy Wise Rewards works to reduce electricity
usage by cycling central air conditioner compressors off for short periods of
time during periods of peak electricity use. In addition to receiving a free
programmable thermostat or switch, customers will receive a one-time bill
reduction of $50 when Atlantic City Electric installs the EWR device in their
