All Customers Able to Accept Power to be Restored by Midnight200,000 Outages Resolved
Mays Landing, N.J. – With more than 90 percent of customers back in service after Hurricane Sandy, Atlantic City Electric has released over 700 mutual assistance personnel it received from utilities as far away as Texas and Alabama to help utilities to its north deal with the devastation. “Thanks to the hard work of our Atlantic City Electric crews and these seasoned hurricane responders from the South we were able to restore more than 200,000 customers. The most severely impacted customers on the mainland and barrier island communities capable of accepting power should be fully restored by the end of the weekend,” said Vincent Maione, Region President for Atlantic City Electric. At the height of the storm, about 220,000 Atlantic City Electric customers were without service. “Governor Christie stressed the need to send mutual assistance crews north as quickly as possible.Atlantic City Electric and its parent company -- Pepco Holdings, Inc (PHI) -- began preparing company crews and contractors as well as requesting supplemental crews through the mutual assistance program days before Sandy arrived. On behalf of its three Mid-Atlantic utilities, PHI requested 3,700 personnel and was able to obtain 1,420 mutual assistance crew members. “As PHI was able to restore service to its customers in Washington, Maryland and Delaware, mutual assistance resources were redeployed to Atlantic City Electric. Now, we’re confident our Atlantic City Electric crews can address the remaining outages in Southern New Jersey, so we’re passing the help on to where it is needed,” said, Joseph Rigby, Chairman, President and CEO of PHI. “We deeply appreciate the help we received from mutual assistance crews who came from far and wide to stand beside us. We’re glad we were able to restore our customers quickly so we can send these wonderful people to help others still in distress,” Rigby concluded.
