Outages & Emergency Preparedness

Atlantic City Electric Prepares for Hurricane Earl

Atlantic City Electric is monitoring the progress of Hurricane Earl and making preparations for the possibility of severe weather.  We recommend that customers who are in areas that may be impacted by this storm make preparations as well, by reviewing emergency plans and restocking supplies such as water, non-perishable food, and other essentials. In the event of severe weather, remember to stay away from downed power lines.

Here are some storm-preparation tips:

Assemble an emergency storm kit

  • Include a battery-powered radio or television, flashlight, first-aid kit, battery-powered or windup clock, extra batteries, non-perishable food, manual can opener, bottled water, any necessary medications, and a list of emergency phone numbers.

  • Remember to include supplies for infants, small children, and pets.

  • Make sure your home has a telephone with a cord or cell phone to use as a backup. Cordless telephones require electricity to operate, and won’t work if there is an outage.

Protect your electronic equipment.

  • Plug computers and other sensitive equipment into surge suppressors, and consider a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) for temporary battery backup power.

Identify a place for emergency shelter in case of an extended outage.

  • It is important that customers with special needs or their caregivers take responsibility to make arrangements ahead of time to prepare for potentially long-lasting service interruptions.
