    Information by town:

Atlantic City Electric is taking steps to assure continued reliable service in your area by investing in a new distribution substation at High Street and Swedesboro-Franklinville Road in Woolwich,  and transmission upgrades through the communities of Paulsboro, East Greenwich, Greenwich, South Harrison, Swedesboro, Pilesgrove and Woolwich. The new substation and associated transmission line improvements are needed to maintain reliability and meet demand for electricity in Woolwich Township and the surrounding area. Load growth in this area could exceed capacity by summer 2017, resulting in reliability issues.

The new substation will divide the electric load in the township between two substations, which will provide more reliable service for residents and allow for quicker restoration in the event of a power outage.

Atlantic City Electric is performing an upgrade of approximately 18 miles of existing transmission lines that will connect the High Street substation to existing substations at Billingsport Road in Paulsboro and East Lake Road in Woodstown.  Upgrading existing transmission lines will help eliminate the need for a new set of transmission lines and provides a wider range of reliability benefits to the region. Specifically, the improvements will enhance the overall transmission capabilities and contribute to better electric system reliability in Gloucester and Salem County communities.

To meet new construction standards and improve the resiliency of the line, the transmission upgrades require taller and larger structures. Certain sections will require steel poles.

Atlantic City Electric is upgrading two existing 34 Kilovolt (kV) transmission lines to 69kV lines. One line will run from Paulsboro substation (8.5 miles) and a second from Woodstown substation (9.5 miles). The communities within these routes include Paulsboro, East Greenwich, Greenwich, South Harrison, Swedesboro, Pilesgrove and Woolwich.

The vast majority of the line will follow the same path as the existing line (existing right-of-way). There are currently 650 poles, which will be reduced to 570 as part of this project. The structures will be replaced with either wood or steel poles.

Construction of the new substation began in the Fall of 2016 with an anticipated completion date of May, 2017.

Construction of the transmission line commenced in December, 2016 with an expected completion of May, 2017.
